This wireless intercom can extend
your two-way radio network across the world. It is intended
for those organizations who have their own private, IP data
network with the proper QoS mechanisms in place. If you are
currently using Voice over IP, then chances are good you
have most of what it takes. If this all sounds foreign to
you, you may not be a candidate for this product, unless you
have network people who will be handling the design and
installation for you.
The VHF 25,000-Mile Intercom is based on our popular MURS or
UHF Commercial Intercoms. It is available in either VHF or
UHF frequencies. It has all the capabilities of our
Commercial Intercoms, plus it has the ability to interface
with a Radio Gateway or RoIP Router that transfers the
transmissions over an IP network.
A built-in RJ-45 connector and Type 3 (or 5) E&M analog
interface allows easy connection to the IP network using a
RoIP router or radio gateway. When connected to the IP
network via a router or RoIP gateway the 25,000-Mile
Intercom enables compatible land mobile radios to
communicate across the IP network to any other networked
device (i.e. PC, laptop, IP phone, cell phone) including
two-way radios regardless of make, model, frequency band or
signaling format (equivalent hardware/software may be
required at opposite end). This intercom can be programmed
to work with virtually any brand of VHF or UHF business band
radio.
For even greater talk range and/or increased penetration
in and around buildings, the 25,000-Mile Intercom can even
be programmed to communicate with a radio repeater.
Configuration of the 25,000-Mile Intercom is a simple
process that consists configuring the type of E&M
connection, either Type 3 or 5, and plugging it in to your
gateway/router. The main detailed configuration is all
done within the gateway/router. This is not something our
support people can help you with since this is part of your
data network and there are just too many variations of
equipment. This why you will need skilled network
technicians to install this equipment. We can help you
with the two-way radio part and we can even program the
25,000-Mile Intercom to work with your existing radios if
you have them.

The VHF 25,000-Mile Intercom communicates on
all 5 channels of the MURS frequencies. MURS is short for Multi-Use
Radio Service and is a newly created service by the FCC in the
United States. It is a low power, short range service in the VHF
(Very High Frequency) 150 MHz Citizens Band radio spectrum in which
you do not need a license to operate a MURS station.
The 25,000-Mile Intercom has a small, rugged
metal case and is designed for industrial applications. It is
desk or wall-mountable with an optional wall-mount bracket, and has a range of up to 2 miles line of
sight.
See the applications and other products available for MURS in the
MURS
Application Bulletin (requires the free Adobe PDF Reader to view and print).

"We purchased the MURS 4 Mile Range and MURS
Commercial Intercoms because one of our Preschool classrooms
is far removed from the office – there was no way of
communicating electronically/ rapidly which is of special
concern in case of emergency. We decided to purchase the
outdoor Callbox XT to put out on our playground.
The classroom piece of the intercom has
saved much frustration and time simply by eliminating the
need for a staff member to either leave her classroom to
walk to the office or vice versa. Our office staff (one of
whom is handicapped) LOVES them because they don’t have to
get up and down repeatedly to deliver messages/ gather
information, etcetera. It’s all done through the new
intercoms. They provide peace of mind in case there is an
emergency." -- Stephanie

If you want to add a louder external speaker,
you can plug an optional one into the speaker jack. You can also
plug in an optional external microphone. If you want to use a
headset, there is an optional headset that plugs into both the
speaker and microphone jacks.
The 25,000-Mile Intercom includes an AC adapter
for wall power, plus you have the option of powering it from a
12 volt DC car adapter and use it along with a magnetic mount antenna
(you would need a wireless connection for the RJ-45 to do mobile
applications).
The VHF 25,000-Mile Intercom also has a built-in
NOAA Weather Radio feature so it can receive NOAA weather radio
broadcasts or National Weather Services alerts for threatening
weather. These features can be turned off or on via field
programming.
See Figure 1 below for a description of the
intercom controls and connectors.
As mentioned above, if you are already using two-way radios, this
intercom can also be field-programmed to other VHF frequencies
to match those radios. If you are using UHF radios contact us
because we can offer you this same intercom in UHF at the same
price.
