Description

This Bluetooth motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile intercom enables you to communicate wirelessly with a passenger. You'll need two of these intercoms to be able to enjoy rider-to-passenger communication. The only difference between this and the Bluetooth Bike-to-Bike intercom is that it only has a maximum range of 33 feet instead of 330 feet.

Not only does this intercom enable you to communicate with a partner, it contains some advanced functionality:

  • Integrate with Bluetooth enabled cell phones and automatically answer calls totally hands free.
  • Listen to stereo music from your A2DP enabled cell phone, PDA, or MP3 player
  • Listen to the audio navigation message from your Bluetooth enabled GPS.

This Bluetooth headset uses Bluetooth Version 2.0, which give it three times the data transmission speed. This allows it to have two channels of communication. One channel is used for cell phone, GPS, or other device communication, while the second channel is used for intercom communication. This makes simultaneous connections much less complex than with other motorcycle intercoms. Every headset can have two devices at the same time on Channel 1 and also intercom on Channel 2. Phone calls, music, and GPS announcements can only be received on the headset that they are actively paired with.

This Bluetooth motorcycle intercom also has the A2DP protocol, which stands for Advanced Audio Distribution Profile.  This profile defines how high quality audio (stereo or mono) can be streamed from one device to another over a Bluetooth connection. What this means to you is that you can stream audio from any device that supports A2DP such as the iPhone with the 3.0 operating system. If your audio device doesn't support A2DP, that just means you'll hear music in mono quality only.

If you are planning on using these intercoms for listening to music, note that each intercom will likely need its own music source. Most Bluetooth devices will only "pair" with one other device. So your buddy or passenger may not be able to listen to the same music as you. Check your music device to see if it pairs with one device at a time.

If you want to use it for taking calls from your cell phone, then you'll have a choice of automatically or manually accepting calls. It defaults to automatic call acceptance which means you will hear the ringing of the phone in your headset and it will be automatically activated after 2-3 rings. To hang up the phone, momentarily press the [T] key.

If the manual call acceptance is activated, you accept the call by pressing the [T] key during ringing. To hang up the phone, you have to momentarily press the [T] key again.

While listening to music from your cell phone, you can receive calls at any time. If you receive a call, the music will be muted and you will hear the ringing of the cell phone. Depending on your selection, the call will be accepted automatically or manually. After finishing the call, the music will be automatically activated again. The cell phone has first priority on channel 1.

In addition to your cell phone, you can also connect a Bluetooth audio device on channel 1 at the same time as your cell phone (e.g. GPS system, MP3 player, or Bluetooth Adapter for devices that don't have Bluetooth.

When playing music, you can adjust the volume of the audio device with the [+] & [-] keys of the headset. You can start and stop the music with the Mute key.

The headsets are equipped with VOX, which stands for Voice Operated Switch, a term that means it uses voice activation to turn the microphone on for intercom use. Channel 2, the intercom channel, will be muted if there is no active communication between headsets. So no noise will be transferred between headsets during this time and all connected audio devices will be active. After the VOX has turned off, it can be activated again by speaking into the microphone.

One benefit of VOX if you aren't using a second audio device is that your battery life will be extended greatly for long trips. Without VOX your batteries may run out before you're done riding for the day.

VOX mutes the microphone automatically after 30 seconds if the headset does not detect any communication signals.  To keep VOX from muting the headsets, you can  adjust the sensitivity of the microphone to ensure continuous communications.
