If you're not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars
on a motorcycle intercom system but you still want one that works
well, either the NPCX2 or the NPCX3 system is for you.
These small, lightweight motorcycle helmet intercom systems provide
big features for little money. The audio quality is surprisingly rich and clear.
These motorcycle intercoms provide
full duplex, simultaneous two-way conversation. The headsets have a
single earpiece combined with a microphone boom. The headset should
fit into any helmet. Of course, best performance will come from
using a full-face helmet with shield.
These units are powered by three AAA batteries, or you can get an
optional power adapter from the manufacturer to plug into your 12V
DC motorcycle battery. Headsets connect by coiled cords to 1/8"
jacks on the motorcycle intercom unit and there is a quick
disconnect point about 3 inches from the bottom of your helmet once
it is installed.
If you want to listen to music while you ride, both the NPCX2 or
the NPCX3 have an External Music (Aux In) Operation for pumping in
sound from your iPod or Walkman. You'll need an ordinary stereo
mini-phone plug jumper cable (3.5mm TRS phone plugs both ends) to
plug it in.
The NPCX3 also has a built-in FM tuner (mono sound only) for
listening to your favorite radio station. The built in Voice
Activation (VOX) of the NPCX3 automatically lowers the radio level
during voice communications and returns it about three seconds after
talking stops.
If you want to use the NPCX3 motorcycle intercom for bike-to-bike
communication you can do that too as long as you have a compatible
FRS/GMRS 2-way radio. Your 2-way radio must have it’s own internal
VOX (voice activated transmission) function and a jack for
connecting an external headset.
You can use either the NPCX2 or the NPCX3 to answer a
call on your cell phone. Your cell phone must first have an external
headset jack and be compatible with the optional cables available
from the manufacturer for interconnection with these motorcycle
intercoms.
While these NPCX2 or the NPCX3 intercoms are certainly not the best
motorcycle intercom system units you'll find on the market, they
provide exceptional value for the money.
