A front gate intercom system can be used for both business and residential when there is a driveway gate that keeps people from entering until they are approved to do so. The gate is closed and when a visitor arrives they press a button to call a security desk, receptionist, or whomever is responsible for providing access. Depending on the equipment chosen, this person can be mobile or confined to one location.
There are four different technologies available to choose from. One uses the cell phone network and requires a monthly fee. It is essentially has a cell phone circuit board in a metal housing and when a visitor arrives and presses the button, it calls any phone number you have programmed into it. There are no range limitations. As long as you have cell phone service at the gate, it can call you anywhere you are.
If you have a strong enough WiFi signal at the gate so you can get Internet service, then a WiFi intercom may be a good choice. It can call an app on a smartphone or a tablet PC and unlike the other options, it also gives you video of the person at the gate.
A third option uses digital 900Mhz spread-spectrum frequencies. like the above two solutions it provides full duplex communication, which means both sides can talk simultaneously. It has a range limitation of around 4000 feet maximum.
The last option uses two-way radio frequencies in the UHF or VHF two-way radio business band. These options work like a walkie talkie where they are push-to-talk and release-to-listen. If you want to use existing two way radios, an outdoor gate intercom can be programmed to work with them. We also have intercoms in the MURS (multi use radio service) which do not require an FCC license.
