Locking down access to buildings and property is good for security, but you may also be restricting access to customers and employees.
The solution is an security intercom for access control at gates and doors. For existing buildings running wires between the locations that need communication can be prohibitively expensive. That's where wireless systems come in.
For applications like security gates there can be a good distance between the points of communication so a system with long range is needed.
For systems that use radio frequencies there are two choices in frequency ranges; UHF and VHF. If you already have two-way radios that use these frequencies, and you want to use your existing radios to communicate with the security point, you can do that. Wireless intercom callboxes can be programmed to the same frequency and privacy code as your existing radio.
If you don't have existing radios and you don't want to get an FCC license, then there are frequencies in the VHF band that are license free. The MURS frequency bands do not require an FCC license and MURS wireless callboxes and two-way radios work over long distances.
The wireless callboxes that you put at your security door or gate can be battery powered, powered by 12 volts DC, or by solar. A switch relay can be connected to your door or gate controller so you can activate it remotely from a base station intercom or handheld radio. The radio you choose must have a button that can be programmed to send two-tone codes.
If you would rather have your gate or door call a telephone, then a wireless cell phone network intercom is a better choice. These use AT&T or TMobile GSM-based cell phone service and will call you no matter where you are. All you need is good cell phone service at the gate or door.
A third option is WiFi based if you have a strong WiFi signal at your gate or door. This option also has video capability so you can see the person contacting you. These systems call an app on your phone or there is a tablet PC option.
