Description
A MIFARE proximity card is a contactless smartcard with built-in RFID chip (13.56 MHz) technology that has its own integrated microchip and antenna which can wirelessly connect to the reader without physical contact allowing encrypted secure access control, fare payments and identification, with the ability to store sensitive data securely and read/write/access multiple applications versus a prox card which has no memory and simply emits a universal unique ID. MIFARE proximity cards are commonly used for fare collection on public transportation, secure employee access to corporate facilities, events or special ticketing functions.
How it works
Works via contactless communication between the card and reader.
Establish secure encrypted "handshake"
Proximity: Embedded antenna and chip inside card are activated by reader's magnetic field without contact
Memory: Allows storing of information such as an individual's ID credentials
High Frequency: 13.56 MHz allows for quicker connectivity.
MIFARE vs. basic Prox cards
Prox cards: Lower frequency - typically 125 kHz.
Memory-less - no onboard storage, card merely emits universal ID when scanned. Vulnerable to cloning.
MIFARE Cards: Higher frequency - 13.56 MHZ.
Storage capacity for information, applications. Encrypting data. Hack proof.
Specifications
Card Dimensions: 49mm x 30 mm
