The straightforward integration of a Mighty Mule gate opener with an intercom system delivers enhanced security and convenience. We will provide you detailed instructions to facilitate an effortless installation process.

Step 1: Install the Mighty Mule Gate Controller

Verify that your Mighty Mule gate controller is correctly installed and operational before making the intercom system connection. The manufacturer’s setup instructions should be consulted to ensure the proper installation of your equipment.

Step 2: Run the Low-Voltage Wire

The intercom system requires a 2-conductor low-voltage wire connection with the gate controller. The selection of wire type and installation technique must be based on the specific distance and environmental conditions.
  • Above Ground: Install conduit to shield wire from both environmental elements and physical harm.
  • Underground: Select direct-burial landscape wire which is made to resist outdoor environmental conditions.

Choosing the Right Wire Gauge

The proper wire gauge selection depends on the distance between the intercom and the controller. High gauge wires become necessary for transmitting signals over extended distances. Landscape wire comes in several standard gauges for different applications.

  • 16 Gauge: 16 gauge landscape wire performs effectively for standard installations with lengths from short to moderate distances under 50 feet.
  • 14 Gauge: Ideal for longer runs.
  • 12 Gauge: Recommended for very long distances.
A lower gauge number indicates a wire with greater thickness.

Step 3: Connect the Intercom to the Gate Controller

Locate the COM and CYCL connections on the Mighty Mule control board. Using the diagram provided below, connect these terminals to the intercom’s N/O (normally open) connections. Most intercom systems label these connections as N/O or N/C (normally closed). Ensure the wiring matches the specifications for your intercom model.

Step 4: Test the System

Once the connections are complete, test the system to ensure the intercom can effectively control the gate opener. Troubleshoot any issues by double-checking the wiring and connections.
