Use Case Example: Using for Multi-Point Communication
Question: We need wireless two-way communication between an office and multiple locations. The system must allow us to call the stations directly, even if they do not press the call button on a wireless callbox. What solution would work?
Answer: A good option is to use the RT1100 or RT1101 wireless callboxes at each location, paired with this RT1146 handheld radio inside the office. These operate on the MURS band, which has 5 available frequencies. Each callbox can share a frequency, but a unique privacy code must be set for each one. This ensures that only the intended callbox and the office radio respond to a call.
Key points:
- Incoming calls: If multiple callboxes share a frequency, only one can call in at a time. Others will receive a busy tone.
- Office/Store radios: The RT1146 handheld can be set to scan across all 16 selectable channels, so it will always receive calls regardless of which callbox initiates communication, and what channel the RT1146 is on.
- Outgoing calls: To call a specific pump, simply set the handheld radio to that pump’s dedicated channel/privacy code.
- Power requirements: Each callbox requires a 12V DC power source. Battery operation is not suitable, as the units enter sleep mode and only wake when the call button is pressed. You can supply power from the pump itself or use a 12V AC-to-DC transformer. For installation, an RT1097 power cable is required for each callbox.
This setup gives your office the ability to directly contact people at any callbox, while maintaining clear, organized communication across the system.
