Q: Do you need to purchase 2 units for this to work.
A: Yes these are single units so you need two of something. You can use them with any other MURS device on our website. You can use as many MURS devices together as you like-no limit.
Q: How loud can this be turned up? My dad is hard of hearing and lives in a separate house about 200 yards from our main house. I heed something simple to set up, dependable, long range, easy to use. Will a base unit and two handheld devices work together. will it come all set up and ready to plug in and use? What do I need to order.
A: These are not extremely loud but should be OK as long as the environment isn't noisy.
You can use any combination of MURS units you want, handhelds, base stations, wireless PA units, wireless callboxes, or customer service notification buttons,
Q: Is this a Battery operated intercom and is it just one or are there two ?
A: This is not battery powered. You must plug it into a wall outlet. This is also just one unit. You must purchase another unit or any MURS product from the Related Items section at the bottom of the page. You can use a battery-powered handheld radio with it.
Q: Will these units work from house to metal shop (distance approximately 100 feet)? You may need to use an external magnetic mount antenna like the RT1009 on the metal shop side.
A: Distance-wise they will work. The metal walls may block the signal, however you can use a magnetic-mount antenna like the RT1009 on the metal shop side.
Q: what comes with base unit ?
A: Just a power supply that you plug in the wall. You still need to buy another base unit, handheld, callbox, wireless PA receiver, or other MURS device to accomplish communication.
Q: When you say wireless, does it work via wi-fi or radio frequency.
A: These are not Wi-Fi. They use the 5 MURS frequencies, which are unlicensed 2-way radio VHF frequencies.
Q: 1. what is its maximum range between wooden houses? Can 3 or more houses be interconnected?
Can the interconnection commuinication be activated by pressing a button - similar to a doorbell?
A: For the maximum range that is about trying to come up with an answer for "How far is up?". There is really no answer based on the info we have. It depends on what's in the walls, what the terrain is between the houses, if there are other houses between the houses, any radio interference in the area, and dozens of other factors. If the houses are both on mountain sides with line of site, you may be able to reach 20 miles or more. If you are talking in a city, maybe a city block.
You could interconnect as many houses as you want. As long as they are on the same channel with the same interference eliminator code there is no limit.
There is a call button that will sound a tone on the other units. Otherwise you just press your PTT button and talk.
Q: We are looking for a monitoring system to put in my mother’s house about 300 ft away but need something voice activated and was wondering if you have a unit that offers that feature or if we get the MURS system with a hand held device could you tape the call button down on the hand unit and it would work
A: There is no monitor system on this intercom and you cannot tape the button down since it will time out. It is also not voice activated. Would recommend the Amazon Echo as long as you have Wi-Fi Internet connectivity in both places: https://www.intercomsonline.com/amazon-echo-wireless-intercom
Q: Where is this item manufactured?
A: It is made in China. If you need one made in the USA then choose the RT1014:
Q: My husband and I need a way to communicate with each in case of an emergency or other questions while doing things in different parts of our 3 acre property. We are both elderly and if one of us has a physical problem, we can communicate with each other. Is your product something that would be helpful to us?
A: Yes you could use the MURS Base station in the house and then use the BT1001 for the person who is mobile.
Q: Does a hand held come with it?
If not how to order hand held receiver
A: This is only one unit. You have to order another MURS device from the Related Items section at the bottom of the product page.
