Touchless No Button-Press Hands Free Intercoms Reduce Coronavirus (COVID-19) Transmission
While this is being written, the COVID-19 virus is spreading across the US and the World. Even when it finally does subside, people will have developed a sensitivity about touching things in public. Since most Intercoms are designed to require a button press to make a call, we decided touchless intercom solutions were needed that don’t require people to touch anything.
There are two ways you can make this happen. First, if you know the visitor is at the intercom you can call and have the intercom auto-answer so the visitor doesn’t have to do anything. The second option is to have some sort of sensor that essentially automatically presses the call button to alert you that a visitor has arrived and then you just answer the call. There are touchless switches that enable you to simply wave your hand in front of them and they can activate the call button on the intercom so that it alerts you that a visitor is at the door.
We have a few options in both wireless and wired systems. One wired option uses a high-definition speaker that can be mounted either inside or outside. You can call the unit and it will auto-answer, or you can attach some sort of sensor to it to trigger a call to the inside station. This system uses CAT-5 wiring and you do not need power at the station the visitor uses. It works very well in noisy environments as well. The calls are full-duplex like a telephone call so there are no button presses required once the call is established.
If your budget is low then there are lower-quality audio wired systems that let you call the visitor station without them having to press a button. On your side you will push a button to talk and release to listen while the visitor doesn’t have to do anything. You can also attach a switch of some sort that will sound a tone on the inside station to alert you that they are there. That could be a switch on the door, a pressure sensitive switch door mat, a motion sensor, or some other device that gives a momentary switch closure. The tone sounds as long as the switch is closed so you want to make sure it is a momentary switch.
If you need a wireless solution, we have a full-duplex wireless product as well. You can connect sensors to it that call the inside station, or you can get a software upgrade to auto-answer calls from the inside station. These intercoms can operate at long distances as well.
All of these solutions ensure that people can keep their hands safely to themselves without worry about transmission off or catching a virus. Call 888-298-9489 to let our product experts assist you in selecting the right option for your needs.
