Our USPS Key-Activated Lock Release Box is designed to provide secure access for postal employees in multi-tenant buildings, such as apartments and condos. This system uses the same physical USPS access key, commonly known as a USPS arrow key, that mail carriers already have. This lock and key are provided by USPS, not by us.
USPS Key Keeper Versus Release Box
Standard USPS key keeper boxes are a simple metal box with a USPS arrow key lock installed. After the USPS employee turns the key, the box opens revealing the physical key which is then used to open the building. This works, but the obvious risk is that the key may be lost, stolen or copied.
This USPS Key-Activated Lock Release Boxes completely removes the physical key. The box never opens, the building entry key is never revealed. All that happens is that when the USPS key is turned, an internal switch is activated which in turn unlocks your building using the electric door strike. It's more convenient and more secure.
USPS Switch Box Features
Stainless Steel Box with USPS Postal Lock Slot:
The robust stainless steel box is engineered with a hole specifically for a USPS postal lock. When the postal carrier inserts and turns the key, it activates an internal switch integrated into the box. This switch is connected to your electric door strike, enabling the door to open effortlessly.
Door Strike Integration:
By integrating the lock release mechanism with your current electric door strike or mag lock, the mail carrier's action of turning the lock closes a switch, activating the electric door strike to unlock your door.
Installation Flexibility:
Rather than purchasing an intercom with a built-in key slot, you can opt for this separate lock release box to be installed near your intercom or door. Note that the key and the lock are not included, as it must be provided by the USPS. The Postal Service supplies its own "master access lock," which developers and builders cannot pre-install. To acquire this lock, you should contact your local post office or directly consult your mail carrier.
Lock Release Box Specifications:
