Outdoor Intercoms
Outdoor Intercoms
The first question to answer in choosing an outdoor intercom is whether you want a wireless or wired intercom. The outdoor intercom units you'll find on this page are a combination of wired and wireless systems so make sure you check carefully to ensure the one you are interested in matches what you want.
There are a few technologies available for the wireless outdoor intercoms:
- 2-way radio callboxes reach long distances of up to a mile and can use handheld radios or desktop intercoms.
- Cell phone network intercoms are essentially a cell phone in an outdoor housing so there are no range limitations at all, but is a monthly fee.
- Wi-Fi intercoms work as long as you have a strong Wi-Fi signal at the install location.
- Digital callboxes provide encryption for security. These also have hands free capability.
Some outdoor intercoms are audio only while some also provide video. Video intercoms typically have a shorter distance for both wired and wireless systems. It is usually around 300 feet, but we do have a wired system that goes up to 900 feet.
Most of the intercoms below have a monitoring station that goes indoors and an outdoor unit that is weatherproof.
