The VK1018 Advanced Line Simulator is a versatile and cost-effective solution primarily designed for sales professionals, technicians, and engineers to conduct on-site demonstrations or diagnostics without disrupting customer phone service. However, we repurpose it as the foundation for an analog intercom system, enabling the use of standard analog phones. This user-friendly device eliminates the need for active phone lines, delivering seamless two-way communication across a variety of analog telecom products.
The VK1018 supports standard telephones, modems, fax machines, Key Systems, and PABXs. It produces precise call progress tones, caller ID data, and special interrupt tones while accommodating up to 12 analog phones simultaneously.
With advanced features like 911 trainer mode for classroom scenarios, distinctive AC ringing, and robust call progress tone simulation, the VK1018 is perfect for professionals who require reliable telecom testing equipment, or for use as an analog phone intercom system.
How to Use as an Intercom
Setting up the VK1018 as an intercom is quick and straightforward. Simply connect two standard telephones to this versatile telephone controller. When one phone goes off-hook, the controller automatically initiates a call. By default, the first phone off-hook receives 2 seconds of dial tone, while the other phone rings until answered.
The "BUSY" LED indicator provides a clear visual status, lighting up when a phone is in use and turning off when both ports are on-hook or the timer expires. For added customization, the controller allows you to disable the dial tone and ringing, and it supports four distinct ring cadences for unique alerts.
For expanded functionality, you can connect multiple phones in series using an RJ11 splitter, such as this one. However, note that individual phones cannot be called directly. When one phone picks up, all other phones connected to the opposite port will ring, enabling group communication.
This flexibility makes the VK1018 an excellent choice for creating a simple, effective analog intercom system.
