  1. Visitor rings the call button. Operator’s intercom rings, and a local message is played stating “Your call is ringing, please wait.”
  2. Operator answers, and opens the door (by pressing a DTMF tone such as “6”, or a programmed button) and a message is played stating “The door is now open, please enter the building. Have a nice day.” 
  3. Door closes automatically and a final message is played to inform the user “The door is now closed. Please use the call button to talk with the operator.”
In cases where the operator has to place the user on hold or if the call is queued, An IP-based system can automatically play a repeating message such as “Your call is on hold, please wait” or “The operator is currently busy. Your call will be answered as soon as possible.”

While a call is actively being made from a master station, local automated messaging is useful to ensure a user knows what’s going on if the operator isn’t available or has to take a call.

Two-Stage IP System Dialing 

A message is played through both the speaker and microphone such as “Elevator 101A emergency call is registered, please wait”. The intercom then dials the officer. The officer will hear the exact same message in his ear and will know exactly where the emergency call has been placed.

Pre-Recorded IP-PA Announcements 

Intercoms can also be configured with PA integration. Operators can trigger a pre-recorded PA announcement by pressing a programmed key on a phone.

Example: 

When a group call is made, all of the receiving stations are first played a “ding dong” tone, then the programmed recorded announcement is played. If a user answers during playback (by pressing a programmed key or dialing an announcement answer code such as 99), the message stops, and two-way communication with the operator can immediately begin.
